Quantity

Depending on what you want, product methods, etc the issue of quantity must be understood.

Understund the issue of MINIMUM quantity

Minimum quantity On one hand we can say that there is no minimum quantity, but then we must also say that in that case there is no maximum price. If you want to pay a reasonable amount for your products than understand that there are several factors that guides the minimum suitable quantity for your product.

When Purchasing:

If you want us to purchase your products from stock than often its easier to get less quantity or even in some cases single products. But sometimes items are only sold in stock-lots and you have to buy the full lot. A lot can be 12 pieces or a full fabric roll or a container or … - it vary a lot. Ask for your product and we can give indications.

Manufacturing:

When manufacturing there are several issues. Let us take a production of T-shirts as an example but simular things is valid for other types of products. When ordering the fabric from a fabric manufacturer: A single colour fabric for T-shirts normally have a minimum of 100 kg which typically gives around 500 adult T-shirts. Fabrics with woven patterns normally has higher quantities (up to 100 kg per colour, hence the colour lesser used decides to minimum). If the fabric is printed the minimum depends on the method used for the printing and the number of colours. In some cases you need only 10 meters (if printing is done by hand or digital) but in other cases a minimum of 5,000 garments in order to match the minimum quantity of fabric. But you can use the same fabric for different designs, i.e. different models of the garments you order. When purchasing the fabric from a wholesaler: The minimum could be from few meters to a single fabric roll. But then you may get a fabric that you later cannot get again because it may be finished and our contact is the wholesaler and not the manufacturer and we do not have the manufacturing instruction that was used during the production. Then accessories such as buttons and stickers, etc. each have there own minimums. Plus note that sometime a tool need to be made which have its own cost and then if you want 100 pcs or 1000 pcs the extra cost per item will be 10 times higher per item when ordering 100 pcs compared to 1000 pcs. The factory will have minimum that they are ready to undertake. For T-shirts a production line produces up to 600 T-shirts a day (different employees stich different parts or handle other issues of the production such as washing, packing, control, etc.). And a factory does not earn money unless quantity is reasonable from there point of view. So often a minimum of 1,000 or 2,000 pcs apply. But this can sometimes be negotiated if, as an example lets say, you use the same fabric for different designs and/or the same design for different fabrics (let say different colours or patterns). As soon as you are below 250 pcs per design the price per item starts to increase significant – hence you must be able to charge a higher price from your customers. If you want 10 of each it’s a tailor you need – and not a factory with production lines. Shipping cost, per item, increases when quantity is less. Manufacturing again: We can say that hand made products like some jewellery and some expensive dresses are example of products that you can manufacture few pieces per design or even a single item. But machine made production need higher quantity. If you want to sell at very low prices you must order big quantities. Having said that we must also say that we at CrownBird are good in finding special solutions to difficult issues by using various material in stock and ready designs. So always talk to us first before giving up the idea. Understand: To produce the first item the factory needs to spend time on developing patterns, manufacturing planning, buy special tolls if needed, buy material and accessories, etc. etc. So the first product made will cost a lot but then additional products of the same article will cost much less. A first product, when you include all initial work and purchases can cost thousands of euros even if the production cost for the following items will be, let say, 1 euro each. So if the first produce costs let say 1,000 euro and all following 1 euro then as an example: If you order 10 pcs you have to pay 1,010 euro or 101 euro per piece. (1,000 for preparing for the first item and then 1 euro each) If you order 100 pcs you have to pay 1,100 euro or 11 euro per piece. If you order 1.000 pcs you have to pay 2,000 euro or 2 euro per piece. If you order 10.000 pcs you have to pay 11,000 euro or 1.10 euro per piece This shows you what a huge effect quantity can have on price when there is a significant production start-up cost. Remember that you yourself also have costs before you can place the order and then to handle the order process and with a too small quantity you will earn too little to make a profit. And one more thing: If you order a very small quantity you may be able to sell to family and friends but not see if you have a product that work on the proper market. So you can always ask us for what you want and then we will tell you if the quantity you ask for is possible or not. Be not afraid to ask us because as said; we often have solutions but then perhaps the design or … will be what we can give you and not exactly as per your design.
